We Need to Talk… About Women’s Health

  • B2 Studio, Belgrade Theatre Corporation St Coventry, CV1 1GS (map)

An evening with Dr Nighat Arif and the University of Warwick’s Women’s Health Mission

Women spend a significantly greater proportion of their lives in ill health compared to men despite statistically living longer. Not enough is known about conditions that only affect women (and those assigned female at birth) such as miscarriage and menopause, and because of an under-representation of women in clinical trials we also have gaps in knowledge about how conditions affecting both men and women impact them differently.

The University of Warwick’s Women’s Health Mission are working to transform the health of women across their lives. Dr Nighat Arif is a GP specialising in women’s health and family planning, who makes educational women’s health content on her wide-reaching social media channels. Join us as we dive into all things women’s health, from menstruation to menopause, endometriosis to pregnancy loss.

Programme

  • Dr Nighat Arif is a GP specialising in women’s health and family planning, who makes educational women’s health content on her wide-reaching social media channels.

At this event, she’ll be talking about new developments in the world of women’s health, with a particular focus on menopause.

  • The talk will focus on the impact of endometriosis, difficulties in diagnosis and lack of treatments. Erin will talk briefly on where we are with treatment today, with an optimistic view to the future. She’ll then chat about her own research and what we are trying to do to find new diagnostics and therapies.

  • In this talk Beck will discuss the unfair differences in women's health experiences and care in the UK, and how researchers are working to address this.

  • The vaginal flora is central in women’s health. An imbalance in the vaginal flora composition is associated with an increased risk of vaginal infections and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Alexiane will discuss what we do – and don’t – know about the small but mighty vaginal bacteria and how we can target them to improve women's health.
