Resonate Returns to Cheylesmore for Games, Challenges, and Wellbeing!

After an amazing event as part of the Resonate Festival in April, the Warwick Institute of Engagement have returned to Cheylesmore Community Centre! Building on a relationship developed by the Warwick Health GRP (a group who focuses on addressing global health challenges through research), a team of Warwick staff and students organised a night of games, challenges, and activities celebrating health and wellbeing for attendees aged 11-16.

We were joined by researches from across the University to share some of the exciting and innovative work happening at Warwick, while also having a chance to test our skills and win some prizes! A team of students and staff working with Mark Elliott in WMG demonstrated motion capture technology, driving simulators and discussed how our feelings affect our eating behaviours and our eating behaviours can affect our feelings. Robert O’Toole from the Faculty of Arts joined us to give participants a chance to experience VR technology, and a team led by Kevin Moffat from the School of Life Sciences challenged our reactions and showed us how to train them.

Attendees could also become an Esports champion thanks to the Warwick Esports Team, or to pedal their way to a healthy drink on a Smoothie Bike. Thanks to students from the Warwick Art Society, we also had a chance to reflect on the mindfulness of colouring and create a collaborative art piece to gift to the Community Centre.

Roulla Philippou, from the Health GRP, said “It’s wonderful to be part of this on-going project to create a legacy with Cheylesmore Community Centre. Working with WIE and Stephen from the Community Centre is a pleasure. It was so great to see so many young people enjoying themselves and engaging in all the varied activities, and to see our students running the activities - they did a fantastic job! We also wanted to thank the youth leaders who attended and made the night such a success, and we look forward to the next event!”
