Resonate Lates Launches in Foleshill

The new Resonate Lates programme got off to a wonderful start with an event exploring reflections of the South Asian Partition 75 years on. We were welcomed warmly to the Coventry Muslim Resource Centre on Red Lane in Foleshill for an event which included poetry, animation, classical music, personal histories and reflections on the history, present and future of the South Asian Partition.

The panel of speakers included Professor Virinda Kalra discussing the poetry of Najm Hosain Syed, Professor Shirin Rai sharing personal reflections of her family history, PhD candidate Ghulan Ali Shair exploring the links between classical music and perspectives on partition, and Rashmi Varma with a series of readings, all ably chaired by Professor Goldie Osuri. A huge thank you must also go to Dr Shahnaz Ahkter who organised the event and shared a new poem written specially for the event.

The evening was finished off with fresh samosas, kindly provided by our hosts at the resource centre and screenings of two animations which are part of Project Dastaan, (داستان‎/दास्तान: “Story”) a peace-building initiative which examines the human impact of global migration through the lens of the largest forced migration in recorded history, the 1947 Partition of India and Pakistan.

The next Resonate Lates is a Games Night for ages 11-16 and will be held at Cheylesmore Community Centre on 24th October. Find out all the details here.
