Warwick Ancient Drama Festival - Assemblywomen

  • Warwick Arts Centre Coventry, England, CV4 7AL United Kingdom (map)

An Ancient Greek comedy brought to the modern stage.

The Warwick Ancient Drama Festival will return in January 2023 with Aristophanes’ Assemblywomen, directed by Hana Lawrie and produced by Seb Handley.

This student-led performance follows the women of Athens as they disguise themselves as men to infiltrate the government and take over the city. The citizens of Athens are then left trying to adapt to their new leadership, resulting in a series of ridiculous situations.

Assemblywomen is a student-run production which combines the ancient and the modern into a fantastically funny musical, full of crossdressing, contradiction, and an array of crazy characters.

The Department of Classics and Ancient History would like to invite you to enjoy a performance of this play, with the event on Thursday 26th January (19.00) preceded (at 18.15) by a public lecture given by Xavier Buxton on ‘The Domestication of the Polis in Aristophanes’ followed by a Q&A.

Tickets for the Thursday performance and lecture, and the Friday evening performance, are on sale now on the Warwick Arts Centre.

Tickets are priced at £6.
