December 2021 sees the Warwick Food GRP work with Tales from Coventry Tables to run an exciting bean-based event as part of the Resonate Festival’s theme of the month, FEAST!

The University of Warwick Library have brought together accounts from across history and the present day to celebrate the importance of women in the evolution of our wonderful city.

During September, the theme for the University of Warwick’s year-long Resonate Festival for Coventry’s City of Culture year was Words and Voices. The Connecting Cultures GRP was responsible for organising the month’s events, and we are delighted to share with you here our reflections and thoughts on what were a fun packed and thought-provoking series of weekends, made all the more special as these were some of the first Resonate Festival events to be held in person since the festival began back in May.

Tying in with our focus on Sanctuary throughout the month of June, Professor Alison Ribeiro de Menezes (Hispanic Studies, School of Modern Languages and Cultures) brings us this film exploring her work on the history of Chilean exiles who were brought over to the UK through assistance from World University Service.

How can we understand the experiences of Syrian refugees resettling in the West Midlands? This online art exhibition on the theme of Home includes visual artwork created by people from Coventry and the surrounding area who have lived experiences of sanctuary, including audio descriptions from the artists.

The exhibition is a collection of work produced by young people seeking sanctuary in Coventry and attending English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses.

September in the Resonate Festival is all about Words and Voices.T We’ll be exploring the power of words - spoken, written and sung. We’ll be taking up residency in the Assembly Festival Gardens in Coventry this September, with events curated by the Connecting Cultures GRP.

Throughout the year we will be holding a series of mindfulness workshops with Dr Dean Howes. Each workshop will focus on a different aspect of mindfulness practise to chime with our monthly themes.

What will the City of the future be built of? What if we could use recycled waste to build a more sustainable city? How can artists, designers and engineers work together to create sustainable cities that work for us all?

This interactive show for Primary Schools, recorded live, will take you on a tour of materials science to think about how we can design and construct the future and explore the wonderful world of material science.
