In with the Old - Upcycling At EcoFest 2024
The Resonate Team made our way to the Pump Room Gardens at the end of August to join food vendors, artists, performers and more at EcoFest 2024. This event from Warwick District Council is a chance to explore local green spaces and sustainable living, and we took the opportunity to get attendees thinking about Fast Fashion.
Thanks to the brilliant team from the University of Warwick Design Studies, we spent the day thinking about how we can reuse old material to create something new, reduce waste and extend the life of the things we own - with our brand new weaving board!
The Design Studies team work towards solving global problems with innovative, practical design - challenging our thinking and finding creative solutions. For this event, they designed a weaving board that helped us to create a community art piece with our visitors throughout the day and think about where our clothing comes from. Most importantly, they had a template for you to make your own at home with nothing but some spare cardboard and string! If you missed it on the day, watch this space for a downloadable template and instructions.
Over 150 of our creative volunteers worked together, while thinking about what old material at home they might be able use to create something new - maybe some old shirts, scrap paper or ribbons? All to create our important message by the end of the day…
We also heard about some of the amazingly creative ways you upcycle at home! Do you have a top tip or idea you’d like to share about how you reuse? Let us know on our socials with #DesignStudies!
