In line with this year’s subtitle and theme, DOUBLE BILL, SRFF 2024 will be screening films from seemingly different and sometimes geographically distant contexts that, in fact, share much in common—such as struggles, traumas, and cultural similarities.
Screening Rights (SRFF), a festival of socially engaged and formally innovative cinema from the Global South, returns with a new, highly ambitious and conceptual 10th-anniversary edition, which will take place from 17-20 October in Birmingham and Coventry.
The festival will span both online (in collaboration with Grand Union) and in-person events across 4 days in Coventry and Birmingham – at Warwick Arts Centre, the Coventry Transport Museum and MAC Birmingham. Most of the films are cutting-edge festival titles from Palestine, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Brazil, Ethiopia, Iran, and more, released in the last two years and never before screened in Birmingham or Coventry.
Tickets to screenings cost £9.25*
This event is organised by Professor Michele Aaron from the University of Warwick Department of Film and TV Studies and Shared by Resonate.
*A note from the organisers: ‘Our tickets go to cover costs, support our panellists and filmmakers. We've got promo codes available, and if you can't afford the price or would like to invite someone who can't – don't hesitate to get in touch, we have some free tickets set aside so the event can be accessible to all. Drop us a line to screening.rights@gmail.com or DM us on IG (@screeningrightsfilmfest) if you need any of these.’*
