Another evening to Engage, Inspire, and Entertain…

The next instalment in the 2023 Resonate Festival! Another two big events for you this evening. Our very own Professor Alex Sharpe will be delivering the third and final talk in the series on David Bowie. This talk focuses on David Bowie and Ideas on Love, join Alex from 7-8pm. Then at 8.30pm we will be in conversation with Ruth Jones, finding out about the novelist as her book, Love Untold, is released in paperback.

Kenilworth Books will be here with books to purchase (and get signed) and to help you have a great evening we have live music in the foyer alongside workshops, talks and activities including:

Dr Helena Verrill - The 17 Wallpaper Patterns (7 - 8pm)
An interactive talk introduction to symmetries of patterns, and an explanation of the classification into 17 different kinds of wallpaper patterns.  We'll have wrapping paper and colouring pens for some hands on fun with geometry. 

Lils Dobber - Once More With Feeling (8:05 - 8:25pm)
A talk about the weird and wonderful experience of going through puberty a second time as a nonbinary trans person taking HRT, followed by time for questions and discussion. Drawing dually on trans theory and personal experience the talk will explore the complex temporalities of transition and the humour of experiencing your voice breaking for the first time aged 21. Please note that due to the nature of the topic there may be references to transphobia.

Vish Ratnajothy - The Death of the Clown (9:40 - 10:00pm)
The BBC New Comedy Regional Finalist comedian, @vish_ratnajothy presents his new stand-up show - The Death of the Clown - where he tries to find out what makes his brain tick! He'll be exploring how iffy hotels are, how hard it is explaining what a comedian is, the pressure to pump out a mini-Vish, his fear of doctors and police officers and finally trying to figure out his own mind.

Members of the Energy and Sustainability Team will be hosting a foyer activity encouraging people to either write or draw ‘Letters to Tomorrow’. This national campaign invites participants to ‘Write a letter to a loved one in the future to call for political action on climate change now. Because the future of our planet isn't written yet.

Lasers and Light, A Particle or a Wave We control and use light to measure and perform tasks in the modern world. In this demonstration we will show how we steer light for scientific experiments, from the detection of gravitational waves to the colour of historic paintings and everything in between.

Alongside economics comics, poetry and more!

Add to that two free drinks for each guest, we know it’ll be an evening not to be missed, we promise!

Joining us is completely free, but you will need to register for a General Admission ticket (this gets you your drinks vouchers).

Our two main events have limited capacity so you will need to book separate tickets, and you can book these below.

Last minute, extra tickets for Ruth Jones are now available! Once these are sold out, there will be an opportunity to queue for any spaces that become available tonight.

You will get a confirmation email with a QR code for each of the bookings you’ve made, please bring these with you on the night (print out or accessible on your phone).

This event is aimed at those aged 18 and above, but we welcome 14-17 year olds with an accompanying adult.
