In spring 2020, the City of Culture University Partnership funded 18 local artists to respond to, and work with, researchers from the University of Warwick and Coventry University - ‘ Coventry Creates – Get creative, feel connected - resulting in a wide range of innovative artworks presented through a digital exhibition. From social sciences to arts, to science and medicine, artists worked with researchers to create this digital project.
Coventry Creates has supported the local arts and cultural sector at a time of crisis, given people a creative focus and connected researchers and artists to communicate research in new and innovative ways.
The new online exhibition that has received funding from Arts Council England, will be released on Wednesday 8 December at 7pm. Highlights will include:
HOSPICE CARE and the PANDEMIC
John Macartney and Emily Warner collaborated in researching the impact of Covid-19 on people with life-limiting conditions and those who care for them. Capturing the broad experiences of people across the region, musical scores with an accompanying written piece help explore the voices and experiences of people with life-limiting conditions, family carers, hospice staff and service providers.
LONELINESS – history of solitude and relevance today
Naomi Pullin and Paul Daly – a partnership researching the history around loneliness and feeling alone in a crowd and the pressures of social etiquette – particularly for women. In this film, Paul Daly brings the historic to life in present Coventry. This team will also be hosting a screening event in the city centre.
LOST MUSEUMS – a video piece filmed in Dudley
With 50+ local museums having closed since 2008, Bethany Rex and John Bernard (City of Culture featured rap/poet artist and finalist on 1Extra Words First programme) explore what this means for the diversity of people who use public museums.

The UKVGB is a spoken word film project at the School of Life Sciences around the resilience of seeds, genetic diversity and the UK vegetable genebank.

Coventry Creates is part of the ongoing work by Coventry and Warwick universities - The University Partnership has funded over 60 creative research projects all involving local artists and/or Coventry organisations and local communities.
