Behind the Siren: from 999 call to critical care team dispatch

  • John Laing Centre Priory Street Coventry, England, CV1 5AB United Kingdom (map)

This event is organised by the the Social Science Impact Team and is shared with you by Resonate.

Professor of Sociolinguistics Jo Angouri (University of Warwick), Professor Nigel Rees (WAST), Dr Matthew Booker (University of Bristol), Dr David Rawlinson (Cymru Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service - EMRTS) invite you to meet the 999Respond team and introduce you to their work.

Do you know what to say if you need to make a 999 call? Ever wondered what happens behind-the-scenes of an emergency call? How do ambulance services make the difficult decisions involved in dispatching a critical care team?

The event will include a short informational screening followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session with crew members of the Welsh Ambulance Service and EMRTS. The team hope to share vital information on what members of the public can do to support the services in case of emergency, and how research can help emergency services in decision-making.

An ambulance will be at the event, a great opportunity for kids to climb in and discover what it's like in a real emergency service vehicle, and for families to meet a real-life paramedic who deals with critical care on the job!

This event is suitable for children and adults. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

This event is part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science and is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.
